Why Global Alternative Assets

A Growing Demand for Alternative Assets

Investment in global alternative assets has grown substantially, increasing from approximately US$7 trillion to over US$18 trillion during the 10-year period from 2014 to 2024.

Global demand for alternative assets is soaring, with the asset class expected to grow significantly over the next three to five years, both in terms of assets under management and as a share of institutional portfolios. Preqin, an industry leader in research on global alternative asset class trends, forecasts that total global alternative assets under management could reach US$29.2 trillion by 2029.

In addition, there is a shift in the investor base. While institutions continue to lead, high-net-worth individuals and family offices are rapidly increasing their allocations. At the individual investor level, ultra-high-net-worth individuals—those with total portfolio values of US$30 million or more—allocate, on average, 50% of their portfolios to global alternative assets.
By contrast, 87% of private individuals plan to either maintain or increase their allocation to alternative assets.

In essence, alternative assets are transitioning from a niche investment to a core component of diversified portfolios.

Why Include Alternative Assets as Part of your Portfolio?
